This morning i made my regular Saturday pilgrimage to the neighborhood FARMER'S MARKET. I think that title deserves capitalization because around here they are an event of grand celebration. They might even be better referred to as mini carnivals. There is an air of excitement that moves like a wave from booth to booth as the crowd shifts it's attention from luscious red tomatoes, to chard the color of precious gems to the bluest of blueberries.
The best is the people. The children look bewildered by all the hustle and bustle, the purchasing of broccoli over ice cream and spinach over popcorn is incomprehensible to the uninitiated young. The air is filled with the voices of children and adults talking happily. Dogs either shlep along with their owners or are held in protective arms high above the crowd to protect the delicate toes of Chihuahua's and puppies. Couples amble along holding hands or lounging on the verge in the shade. Some talking and laughing, some sleeping, all of them touching in some way as if to say "i wouldn't want to share this glorious day with any other soul than you."
The air is redolent with the mingled smells of summers past, fresh berries, lilies and lavender. It all wafts along the pathways mingling with a rainbow of vibrant colors and happy sounds.
The flowers are magnificent. Colossal bouquets put together right before your eyes in every conceivable color and combination. I love seeing people walk around holding huge bouquets as though a spring bride.
I simply could not select enough of the photos to share :) And i have so many more! They a wonderful story of Saturdays, of summer and friends at the Farmer's Market.
And what did you see this bright and happy Saturday morning that made you want to clap your hands in delight!?

Robin..this is wonderful!!!!
During the summer I like to take a ferry over to Saltspring Island because they have the most wonderful outdoor markets like this, not just selling food, but organic soaps and jewelery and clothing and pottery...and there's live music and wonderful energy everywhere.
Your pictures are so full of colour and life!

Beautiful photos! Lucky you, this fantastic farmer's market. I have to agree with the others, yours is a bit more exciting and colorful than the ones I've attended. No clapping today, my delight today was more just pleasure and contentment with everybody around here.

I truly could not decide which photo I liked best. I really tried. I would love to know what the darling little boy was thinking.

you have such an eye for taking photos. i love the ladies with the bouquets, the little girl in the wagon (my goodness, what gorgeous hair!), the sunflower, the cala lilies, the little girl walking while those behind are blurred (wonderful shot!)...oh, my goodness, all of them! the colors are so vivid and vibrant!
oh, but my farmers market looks nothing like this :(

These are GORGEOUS!!! I can't believe this is how your Farmer's Market looks. Here it's a bunch of trucks parked in the shade at the local fairgrounds, under some kind of concrete/metal roof. The veggies and fruit are laid out on truck beds or tables. NO flowers. NO sense of celebration at all. That doesn't mean I don't go, but it's totally different. :( I'm jealous! Yours looks like the markets you see in movies - and all this time I thought the moviemakers were just making it up!

what wonderful photos and I really enjoy reading your descriptions too. Your farmer's market is certainly more debonair than ours. Ours is actually a bunch of farmers with trailers pulled up and thier goods displayed on the back. There are a few sellers of flowers and plants but their spreads certainly don't look as amazing as yours there. Most of the people doing the selling are old men missing teeth...not those lovely exotic ladies at yours. I would trade you any day. lol

thank you for the tour of what looks like a spectacular farmer's market! wonderful photos - very inspiring to look at. the color of the cala lilies, the sun on the sunflowers...and that little girl in the wagon is so lovely! seeing the ribbon of the balloon tied around her wrist is even better than seeing the balloon itself somehow.
