I have been the keeper of Avalon for over 20 years and yet every year i am astonished at how different the gardens look from what i remember of the previous season. I ask myself "where did that Trillie Blue hosta go that i am sure i planted over here last year?" "I could have sworn i had put that new campanula in front of the weigelia bush..." and "how come the deer are nipping the roses so early this year?" And on it goes with me, telling myself that i should keep a garden journal, take notes or otherwise record the things i want to remember from year to year. Sometimes i have done this and yet, never once have i gone back to look at what was written as a way to make sense of the current garden mystery.
Ah well... here we go again. Another gardening season gets underway with fresh ideas and dreams along with plenty of new plants to provide ongoing interest. The energy i have in mid-spring for the garden is plentiful. I focus on getting the physical labor completed so that i can focus on the more artistic projects.
A single photo is all i could stand to post today. Believe me i took scads of photos yesterday while in the garden. The all day photography class i had on Saturday focused on the use of my particular camera and although i am sure i learned some useful things my initial efforts to practice ended up producing some the worst pictures i have taken in a long time. sigh......
Let me place this photo in context. The boxwood hedge that the burro was digging up in previous photos would have been at my back in this shot. What you see now is the neighbors tulips and hanging laundry both of which add their own charm to the scene :)
